Pest Controls

Recent legislation has banned all pesticides for cosmetic use including chemicals most commonly used against weeds and insects.[i]  Nevertheless, having one of the best looking and environmentally sound lawns in your neighbourhood can be accomplished more easily than you think. All Green Sod Growers Ltd. has been implementing environmental and cultural practices for decades, never using pesticides and rarely spraying more than once per year for weeds.

You may still encounter some lawn “problems” during the year, but you can reduce their probability by following our lawn care program outlined in the ‘Great Lawn‘ sections.

With assistance by the Ontario Horticultural Trades Foundation, the OTRF has produced a scientific literature review of alternative pest controls for turf in Ontario. This scientific review was conducted by the University of Guelph based on scientifically published information prior to 2008. This review will be updated on a continual basis as additional alternatives are scientifically proven and released in scientific journals. This brochure, intended to be consumer user friendly, has instructions and tips on product application specific to target pests.  It also has current recommendations for lawn maintenance on how to out-compete weeds for a healthy lawn.An electronic version is available as follows:
